Trying to Get Pictures From Camera to Computer to CD
It's been a challenge for Lisa. One of her learners now has a computer and wanted to have all Lisa's pictures downloaded so she'd remember Lisa, their Peace Corps Teacher, for all time. The download went fine but the photos are no longer on her camera. So she's been trying to get them transferred to a CD from the computer but that hasn't been working well.
Since Lisa doesn't have a computer herself she really wants to both get the pictures on a CD to bring home and get them back on her camera or she won't be able to look at them again till she comes back to America (unless she uses her learner's family computer - which is inconvenient if you just want to go through memories before bed - one of many reasons I really prefer good old snap shots in printed format)
Her Dad has been trying to help but not having Internet access and not knowing the software involved makes his job harder. Pray to the Camera Gods that it all works out - personally I'd love to see the pictures she's taken one way or another.
She really doesn't want the learner to accidentally erase all her memories. So we'll just have to see how it plays out. Having a little technology but not all the bells and whistles of the newer systems makes "simple" transfers of images much trickier.
Speaking of Computers
There may be a flock of computers coming to Lisa's school. Like 20! There probably won't be any Internet connection but it should still be nice. Even if they get Internet access it would be the country wide School Internet connection which is "slower than dial up" much more expensive, and it has a tendency to go down for days or weeks at a time. Ahh well. Baby Steps - Baby Steps!
The only glitch is that in order to have a computer room Lisa's room may be taken over for another class and she may end up moving from room to room for her classes. She's gotten used to having a room of her own. Ahh well. She'll see how it goes.
Tonight Is The Talent Show
The learners are all excited about performing in their talent show tonight - many have spent the week perfecting their "talent" so it should be a fun evening for everyone. Not much was done in her other clubs or in the library this week since the talent show plans kept everyone busy.
Odds and Ends
Lisa's garden has been hit by the double whammy of lots of heat and little rain. The sandy soil really doesn't forgive much for the poor gardener either. But there are a few pumpkin plants among others that have survived - so she'll see how things go.
Lisa is looking into potential Grad School Programs through the Peace Corps Fellows Program - different programs provide various levels of assistance from full coverage of all costs (very few - highly competitive) to paying in-state tuition vs out of state tuition, offering internships etc. Some look very interesting to her. Now she has to study for the GREs. Oh joy! (GRIN)
She's also looking into potential jobs in the DC area - that Peace Corps service gives you a leg up on getting - though that leg is getting more slender all the time (GRIN)
We talked a bit about politics, economics, etc. She may end up wanting to study Economic Development in Grad School - who knows! Environmental Sustainability is another phrase that slips off her tongue more and more! We'll see where the Universe opens doors for her.
She finished Shakespeare's Comedies, and has hit book number 35 for the year. She's doing OK all in all. Till next week - enjoy spring!
